2016 : 20th edition
An unexpected success ? But a well-deserved one !
“19 years ago, no-one would have put their money on the Week. It was a crazy, daring bet that we made and it seems that our aim was true: EDEW is now part of the French social and political calendar,” explains Éric Blanchet, the association’s General Manager.
This a great source of pride for LADAPT, the association behind this event.
Since it was founded, the Week has brought together 21,000 recruiters/ businesses, 101,000 candidates and 115,000 visitors. With 780,000 interviews and meetings having taken place since it began, the Week is becoming more successful with every passing year. If proof were needed, the high patrons of European Disability Employment Week this year are Mr François Hollande, President of the Republic of France, and the European Parliament. It also enjoys the patronage of Mr Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and its sponsor is Marie-Anne Montchamp !
For this 20th edition, LADAPT has several major national events planned, including : • Thursday 10 November: International conference on the topic of inclusive employment at UNESCO (Paris). • Monday 14 November: the Week’s opening day, where the Open Innovation Awards will be presented (CENTQUATRE, Paris). • Thursday 15 November: 5th edition of the employment and disability conference “Employability of disabled workers: let’s take up the challenge of real equality!” (Maison de la Chimie, Paris). • Wednesday 16 November: Disability Employment Forum (Paris).
Alongside this, the EWED continues to take place in Europe, with events in Belgium (in Brussels and Charleroi), Spain (conference on the topic of supported employment and Handicafé© in Valencia) and Italy.
Marie-Anne MONTCHAMP, patron of the 20th European Disability Employment Week!
This year, we are celebrating the 20th Disability Employment Week, which last year was renamed the European Disability Employment Week. LADAPT, the creators and organisers of the EDEW since 1997, is very happy and honoured to announce that Marie-Anne MONTCHAMP has agreed to be the event’s patron in 2016. Marie-Anne MONTCHAMP is the president of a number of associations linked to disability, and particularly Agence Entreprises et Handicap, which brings together major companies in France that are involved in developing the employment of people with disabilities. In 2005, when she was State Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and in charge of disabilities, she drafted and brought to fruition the law on disability of 11 February 2005.
“As far as people with disabilities are concerned, things are progressing and French society and companies have understood the legislator’s message from 2005. Some have understood by conviction because companies have seen how, by taking on and offering jobs to people with disabilities, the face of the company can be changed. But there is still a lot to do. Companies in France that choose not to hire disabled people, by choice, by conviction, by stupidity, are fewer and fewer in number. I am sure that we need to move towards an understanding and application of the law”.
We will be seeing Marie-Anne MONTCHAMP throughout the EDEW from 14 to 20 November.
